The lock screen is the one screen you see a hundred times a day without meaning to. A countdown there needs no app opened and no reminder set — the number is just there, every time you pick the phone up.
Get the appSetting it up
- Press and hold your lock screen and tap Customise.
- Tap the row of widgets under the clock, then choose Countdown from the list.
- Pick the small square for the day count, or the wide one for the date and the days together.
- Tap the widget to choose which countdown it shows.

Any iPhone on iOS 16 or later.
Can I have more than one?
Yes — up to four small widgets fit under the clock, so you can count to more than one thing.
Will it show seconds?
Not on the lock screen widget; iOS does not update widgets that often. The app's Live Activity shows seconds on the lock screen during the final day.
