How the count works

A week is seven calendar days, so 8 weeks is 56 days, weekends and holidays included. Today is the starting point and isn’t counted, which is why the answer always falls on the same day of the week as today. The calculator reads the date on your device, so the start is your today, not the server’s.

What people count 8 weeks for

• Wedding invitations. The usual advice is to mail them six to eight weeks before the wedding, with save-the-dates going out months earlier. Eight weeks from today is Friday, December 25, 2026.
• An early pregnancy visit. Many practices see you for the first prenatal visit at around 8 weeks. Pregnancy weeks are counted from the first day of the last period, not from today; the due date calculator does that count.
• Eight-week courses. Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), the program Jon Kabat-Zinn started in 1979, runs for eight weeks, and so do many beginner fitness plans.
