No alarm set

Keep this tab open. The alarm only rings while this page is open and your device is awake.

On a phone, keep the screen on. For a morning alarm, use your phone’s Clock app.

Pick a time, add a label if you like, and press Set alarm. The page shows how long is left, and at that time it plays a repeating tone until you press Stop or Snooze. Space or Esc stops a ringing alarm and S snoozes it.

Before you rely on it

A browser alarm is only as good as the tab it lives in. It can’t wake a closed tab, a sleeping laptop or a locked phone, so check these before you walk away:

What it’s good for

It works best for the next few hours on a computer you’re sitting at: a call at 2:30, the school pickup at 3:15, the end of a 20-minute nap at your desk. The time follows your computer’s clock, in 12-hour or 24-hour format to match your settings. For a length of time rather than a time of day, the countdown timer is quicker: type 20 minutes and press Start.

Questions people ask

Will the alarm go off if I close the tab?

No. A web page can only make sound while it’s open, so closing the tab, quitting the browser or shutting the laptop turns the alarm off. If you try to leave the page while an alarm is set, most browsers ask you first. Switching to another tab is fine.

Does the alarm work on a phone when the screen locks?

Usually not. Phones pause web pages soon after the screen turns off, and a paused page can’t ring. While an alarm is set, the page asks the phone to keep the screen on, which recent versions of Chrome, Edge and Safari allow. Keep the phone plugged in with the page in front, or use the phone’s Clock app, which rings even when the phone is locked.

Can I use it to wake up in the morning?

Only on a computer that stays awake all night with the tab open and the sound on. A laptop that goes to sleep stops the page, and nothing rings until you wake it. For a wake-up alarm you can count on, use the Clock app on your phone.

How does snooze work?

Snooze stops the sound and rings again five minutes later. You can snooze as often as you like. Stop turns the alarm off; to ring at the same time tomorrow, press Set alarm again.

What if the time has already passed today?

The alarm rings at that time tomorrow. Set 7:00 AM at 10:00 PM and the page counts down 9 hours. On the nights the clocks change it follows your device’s clock: at 11:00 PM the night daylight saving time starts, a 7:00 AM alarm is 7 hours away, not 8.

Can I share a link with the alarm time?

Yes. Add the time to the address, like countdownx.net/alarm-clock?t=06:45 or ?t=6:45am. The page opens with that time filled in. Press Set alarm to turn it on, because browsers need a click before a page may play sound.

Other timers

The stopwatch counts up with laps, and the interval timer runs work and rest rounds for a workout, with a beep at every change. To see how long until the end of the day, there’s minutes until midnight.
