About this countdown
On Monday, 2 August 2027, the Moon's shadow crosses southern Spain, North Africa and the Middle East. Totality reaches Cádiz at about 10:45 am local time, and this countdown is set to that moment. Near Luxor in Egypt the sky stays dark for 6 minutes 23 seconds, longer than anywhere on land until 2114.
- The path of totality runs through Cádiz, Málaga and Gibraltar, then Tangier, northern Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Somalia.
- Outside that path, including the rest of Spain, Portugal, France and the UK, the eclipse is partial.
- Only look at the Sun through certified eclipse glasses (ISO 12312-2). The one safe moment without them is totality itself.
- Luxor has almost no cloud in August, which is why eclipse chasers are already booking there.

Only as a partial eclipse. For totality you need to be inside the path, and southern Spain is the closest place to go.
