• The six-week postpartum checkup. For a long time this was the standard visit after a birth. ACOG now recommends contact within the first three weeks and a full visit no later than 12 weeks after the birth. Your provider sets the actual date.
• Casts and broken bones. Many simple fractures take about six to eight weeks to heal, which is why a cast often comes off around the six-week appointment. Your doctor decides, and X-rays come first.
• Six-week grading periods. Some school districts, many of them in Texas, split the year into six-week grading periods instead of nine-week quarters.
