Twelve minutes is a fifth of an hour and a time a lot of recipes land on. Press Start and the clock counts down from 12:00.
What people use a 12 minute timer for
- Hard-boiled eggs: bring them to a boil, take the pan off the heat, cover it and let them sit for about 12 minutes.
- A tray of drop cookies, many of which bake for 10 to 12 minutes.
- The Cooper test: run as far as you can before it beeps.
- A group activity, or one station in a classroom rotation.
How this timer works
- It remembers the moment it will end, so it stays right when you switch tabs or your phone locks.
- At zero it plays a few short beeps, vibrates on phones that can, and shows "Time's up" in the tab title.
- While it runs it asks the screen to stay on. Full screen makes the numbers big enough to read across a room.

Questions people ask
How long do hard-boiled eggs take?
With the method above, about 10 to 12 minutes off the heat for large eggs, then a few minutes in ice water to stop the cooking. If you keep them at a boil the whole time, check one at around 10 minutes.
What is the Cooper test?
A fitness test where you run as far as you can in 12 minutes. Dr. Kenneth Cooper designed it in 1968 for the US Air Force, and schools and sports teams still use it.
Does the timer work without an internet connection?
Once the page has loaded, yes. The timer runs in your browser and does not need the network to count down or to beep.
Counting down to a date rather than a few minutes? The countdown maker works for any day, and with Pro the Countdown app puts it on your iPhone Lock Screen.
