Good to know

For pre-K and the early grades, the visual timer shows a red disc that shrinks, which kids understand before they can read numbers. For any other length, use the countdown timer.

Questions teachers ask

How do I show the timer on a projector or smartboard?

Open this page on the computer connected to the projector or board, set the time and press Full screen, or F on the keyboard. The countdown fills the whole screen. Press F or Esc to go back.

Will the screen go dark during a test?

While the timer runs, it asks the computer to keep the screen on, where the browser supports it. If the screen still dims, check the power settings before a long test.

Is the alarm loud enough for a classroom?

At zero it plays three short bursts of beeps, about four seconds in all, at the computer’s volume. Turn the speakers up before you start. Browsers only play sound after a click on the page, and the Start button counts.

Can I set up a timer before class?

Yes. Save or bookmark a link with the length in it, like /classroom-timer?m=15 for fifteen minutes. The link sets the time but doesn’t start it, so you press Start when the class is ready.

Is there a timer for younger kids?

Yes. The visual timer shows the time left as a red disc that shrinks, which works better for kids who can’t read a clock yet.
